Abstract To enhance the heat transfer efficiency of spiral wound exchanger, a grooved exchanger (GSWHE) was proposed. A test platform accomplished to experimentally investigate performance with comparison (SWHE). The uncertainty analysis experiment conducted, maximum relative error being not more than ±5%. comprehensive coefficient GSWHE is higher that SWHE when cooling water flow rate low. determine both sides, Wilson plot method applied. tube side in found have an about ±30% compared empirical correlations. results also clearly suggest grooves shell GSWHE. By employing effectiveness as criterion, be 1.23 times SWHE.
